AC repair in Crestview from a licensed local technician

One request instead of a list of numbers to call. Tell us what your system is doing and we pass it to one licensed local HVAC company that serves your ZIP. That covers Crestview and Baker down to the beaches. They call you back and price the repair before any work starts. You can say no.

  • Only companies with a Florida CAC or CMC license
  • Repairs, plus new installs

After Hurricane Isaias: if your outdoor unit sat in water, leave it off until a licensed technician checks it. What to check first.

AC out right now?

Call or text us, then check these three things before anyone arrives.

  1. Drain pan and float switch. Look at the air handler in the garage or the attic. Water in the pan usually means a clogged drain line tripped the float switch, which shuts the system off on purpose. What to do.
  2. Breakers and thermostat. The air handler and the outdoor unit usually have separate breakers. Reset a tripped one once; if it trips again, leave it off. After an outage, give the system a few minutes before you restart it. Why.
  3. Filter and ice. Replace a clogged filter. If you see ice on the copper lines, set the system to off with the fan on so it thaws before anyone looks at it.

If anyone at home is elderly or unwell, get them somewhere cool first. What to do in the first hour.

How it works

One request, one licensed company

  1. Tell us what the system is doing. Use the form or call. A photo of the unit helps.
  2. A licensed local HVAC company calls you back. They ask a few questions and book a time to come out.
  3. You approve the price before work starts. The technician diagnoses the problem and quotes the repair. You decide.

Why systems fail here

Long summers and real winters: why a Panhandle AC works harder

Crestview averaged 97 days at 90°F or hotter a year from 1991 to 2020. Over 2016 to 2025 it averaged 108, and the 90 degree season now runs from about April 24 to October 16, 174 days. Every humid day the system is pulling water out of the air as well as cooling it, and that water runs down a drain line that can clog with algae.

Winter is the other half. Inland January lows average 38°F, and the metro averages about 1,586 heating degree days a year (NOAA nClimDiv), far more than South Florida. A heat pump here heats for real, and the backup heat strips get used. That is why a Crestview system gets a workout in both seasons.

On the beach side, from Okaloosa Island to Destin and 30A, salt air corrodes the outdoor coil and cabinet, and nights stay warm enough that the system rarely rests. Rinse the coil with fresh water now and then, and ask about coated coils when you replace. Salt air and your AC.

Crestview homes

A fast-growing city whose first systems are aging out

The two Crestview ZIP codes hold about 22,625 homes (Census ACS 2020 to 2024). About 51% were built in 2000 or later and another 30% between 1980 and 1999. Only 19% predate 1980. A house built in the 2000s is now 17 to 26 years old, and if it still has its original system, it is past the 12 to 15 years This Old House gives as a typical life.

80% of occupied homes here heat with electricity, which in practice means a heat pump or electric heat strips. Down the road, Fort Walton Beach has the oldest housing in the metro, with 45% of homes built before 1980. There, the ductwork matters as much as the equipment. Moving in on orders? After the storm

Hurricane Isaias and your AC

Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin around 8:30 p.m. CDT on October 9, 2026, as a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Rain totals reached 11.65 inches near Mary Esther, 11.20 inches near Fort Walton Beach and 7.12 inches south of Crestview, and power was out across the western Panhandle. FEMA has now issued 20 major disaster declarations for hurricanes and tropical storms covering Okaloosa and Walton counties, 7 of them since 2017.

If your outdoor unit sat in floodwater, leave it off until a licensed technician inspects it. If it hums, trips the breaker or blows warm air since the power came back, say so when you request service. Keep any generator more than 20 feet from doors and windows, and report storm-time price gouging to the Florida Attorney General at 1-866-9NO-SCAM (1-866-966-7226).

Questions Crestview-area homeowners ask

How much does AC repair cost in Crestview?

Published 2026 national figures put most AC repairs at $250 to $700, with a $375 average (Fixr), or $150 to $650 for common fixes (This Old House). A capacitor is at the low end; a compressor runs $600 to $3,000 or more. Prices around Crestview and Fort Walton Beach vary by company, so get the price before work starts.

Who do I contact if my air conditioner is not working?

First check the breaker and the thermostat, then the filter and the drain pan at the air handler. If it still won't cool, call a company that holds a Florida air conditioning (CAC or RA) or mechanical (CMC or RM) license. Crestview AC Desk can pass your request to one that serves your ZIP. If you rent, tell your landlord in writing too. On base, call the base housing office.

Why does my AC keep shutting off with water in the pan?

Most air handlers have a float switch that turns the system off when the condensate drain backs up, so the water doesn't reach the ceiling. The drain line is usually clogged with algae or sludge. Clearing it is often a short visit, and flushing the line every few months helps prevent it.

Is it worth repairing an AC that is more than 12 years old?

Often not, if the repair is a big one. A compressor or coil on an old system is a lot of money for a unit near the end of its life. A capacitor or contactor on the same unit is cheap and usually worth doing. This Old House puts the typical life of a home cooling system at 12 to 15 years. Salt air can shorten that for units on the beach side.

Does it matter whether I live in Crestview or on the coast?

Yes. Over 2016 to 2025, Crestview averaged 108 days a year at 90°F or hotter and the Destin-Fort Walton Beach airport 71. At night it flips: the coast averaged 106 nights at 75°F or warmer and Crestview 10. Inland systems work hardest in the afternoon and need heat in winter. Beach systems run around the clock and sit in salt air.

Who will come to my house?

An independent HVAC company that serves your ZIP and holds a Florida air conditioning (CAC) or mechanical (CMC) contractor license. Crestview AC Desk is a referral service: we hand your request to a local company so you don't have to phone around. You can check any license at myfloridalicense.com.
